WELLNESS (n.) The condition of good physical and mental health, especially when maintained by proper diet, exercise and habits.
"Wellness" is generally used to mean a healthy balance of the mind, body and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being.
Wellness is a choice:
a decision you make to move toward optimal health.
Wellness is a way of life:
a balanced lifestyle you design to achieve your highest potential for well-being.
Wellness is a process:
an understanding that there is no end point, but health and happiness are possible in each and every moment.
Wellness is the integration of body, mind, and soul:
an awareness that the choices we make in one area affect all others.
Strike a Balance
Wellness encompasses several areas, each one equally vital to the pursuit of optimum health. Striking a balance among all of these areas is a careful art, but necessary to achieve a sense of overall well-being. Perhaps you could think of each of these areas as though they are spokes on a wheel—the closer they are in length, the more even the ride.
These areas of wellness can be defined as: intellectual, social, spiritual, emotional, physical, and occupational. Other categories you could choose from are family, finances, nutrition, health, recreation, or personal growth.
The important thing is for you to identify the areas that are critical to you as a person. Remember that there are many aspects to enjoying an abundant life. Keep them in balance with a proper perspective so that you will maintain a higher level of wellness and satisfaction.
